Illinois State Rolls To 7-0 Sweep Over Eastern Illinois

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – In the first of two home matches at the Evergreen Racquet Club this weekend, the Illinois State women's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 win over Eastern Illinois on Friday night to improve to 2-0 this spring.

ISU jumped out to an early lead in doubles play, with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to secure the first point of the match. The duo of Nevena Kolarevic and Silvia Pomarolli defeated EIU's Michelle Kostadinova and Aleyla Wooten by a final of 6-1 at the No. 2 spot and then the No. 3 tandem of Zoe Limparis and Nuria Sanz defeated Charleigh Fay Luisa Renovales Salazar by a score of 6-1 to secure the doubles point. For good measure, the No. 1 team of Tijana Zlatanovic and Lana Caculovic picked up a 7-5 win to secure the doubles sweep.

The Redbirds would then sweep the singles matches to come away with the 7-0 win. Kolarevic was the first to pick up a win at the No. 3 spot in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 and Pomarolli's defeat of Jemma Booth by a final of 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot made it 3-0 in favor of the Redbirds. Caculovic picked up a win over in straight sets Addison Brown 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot and Sofia Rodrigo secured a win on court No. 6 over Salazar 6-3, 6-4. ISU closed things out with wins at No. 1 by Zlatanovic over Aleyla Wooten 7-5, 6-2 and with a hard-fought win by Sanz at No. 5 over Michelle Kostadinova 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

Illinois State will host its second match of the weekend on Sunday, when the Redbirds welcome in Omaha with first serve set for 12:30 p.m.
