Redbirds Post Second-Straight Sweep With 7-0 Win Over Lindenwood

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – For the second straight match, the Illinois State men's tennis team came away with a sweep as the Redbird defeated Lindenwood 7-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Evergreen Racquet Club to give ISU head coach Mark Klysner his 100th career win with the Redbirds.

"This was a solid match for us today. I don't think we played our best today, but sometimes you have to learn how to win when that is the case," Klysner said. "For me it was a special win being my 100th win here at ISU so it means a lot."

It was a clean sweep for the Redbirds in doubles, as the No. 2 duo of Tom Bevan and Arvid Hjalte wasted little time in defeating Lindenwood's Mattis Lamm and Nathan Matsuguma by a score of 6-0 for the first win of the session. The doubles point was then clinched on court No. 3 as Caden Scarlett and Tomas Valencia rolled to a 6-3 win over Alonso De Prada and Fernando Martin Paz to clinch the doubles point. For good measure, the No. 1 tandem of Emiliano Gonzales and Tin Ostro battled for a victory over Bernardo Henriques and Rodriguez Gonzalez by a final of 7-5.

The Redbirds stayed hot in singles, with Ostro cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot over Martin Paz to make it 2-0 in favor of ISU. Hjalte was next to finish on court No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory and No. 1 player Nam Pham clinched the victory for the Redbirds with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Gonzales to make it 4-0 at the time.

Valencia was next on the board with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Lindenwood's Mattis Lamm, and Adrian Dibildox and Gonzales closed things out each winning third-set tiebreakers at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively, to close out the sweep for the Redbirds.

Illinois State continues its homestand on Sunday, with a split doubleheader against Eastern Illinois (Noon) and Prairie State College (4 p.m.) at the Evergreen Racquet Club.
