Jones Ties School Scoring Record as Redbirds Climb on Second Day

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – One day after freshman Elise Fennell tied the school record for lowest round by a freshman, Redbird junior Morgan Jones tied the overall school record for the lowest single-round in program history – the second time she has reached a score of 67 this season – as the Redbirds climbed two places into 12th place with 18 holes remaining in the tournament tomorrow morning.

Jones' 67 is the second time this season she has carded the record-tying score, as she shares the record alongside current teammate Jinyoung Yun, who has carded 67 four times, and the pair are the only two in program history to shoot a score under a 68.

ISU has a 36-hole score of 583, as San Francisco has carded a remarkable two-round score of 550 (26 shots under par). Fresno State (563), Boise State (566), Washington State (568), Drake (569), UC Riverside (570), Northern Arizona (570), South Dakota State (576), Northern Colorado (576), Tarleton State (577), and Cal State Fullerton (582) all sit ahead of the Redbirds. Trailing the 'Birds are Cal State Bakersfield (588), Southern Utah (590), UTRGV (591), UTEP (596), and Incarnate Word (603).

The Redbirds tee off tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. for the final round of the tournament, alongside Tarleton State and Cal State Fullerton.

Leading the way for the Redbirds through two rounds is Jessica Jolly, who is playing as an individual in the tournament. She is tied for 12th in the field with a two-round 140 after back-to-back 70's. Her second round saw her open on the 15th hole and had birdies on her second, ninth, 11th, and 13th holes to drop to four strokes under par on the day. She stumbled at the finish with two bogeys and three pars over her final five holes; however, for the third time in her early Redbird career she carded a 70, the third-lowest score by a freshman in program history.

One round after tying the school freshman scoring record, Fennell came back with an even-par 72, and is tied for 16th with a round to play. She had three birdies on her round, along with a dozen pars and three bogeys. She and Jolly are racing to the program's freshman tournament record of 215, set earlier this season by Jolly.

Behind her stellar round of 67, Jones has a 36-hole score of 147, and is tied for 45th in the tournament field. Jones had six birdies on her round, against just one bogey and 11 pars. She had a stretch early in her round with three consecutive birdies on her third, fourth, and fifth holes of the day, adding another birdie on her eighth hole. Following her lone bogey of the round, she immediately answered with a birdie, and then added her sixth birdie of the round to get to five under par to tie the record.

Lory Paradis – like Jones – has a 36-hole score of 147 and had three birdies and nine pars on her round, which came after an even-par opening round.

Yun carded a second consecutive 74 to open the tournament; however, her day got off to a rocky start as she was four shots over par through her opening seven holes. She came back strong with three birdies over her last 11 holes of the day, including back-to-back birdies on her 10th and 11th holes of the day. She is tied for 55th with one round to play in the three-day tournament.

Alex Sparrow had three birdies and nine pars in her second round, carding a four-over 76, as her two-round score of 156 has her tied for 89th overall.
