Redbird Volleyball Prepped for Road Swing at UIC, Valparaiso

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State volleyball is prepped and ready for a pair of tough road matches ahead as they travel to Chicago, Illinois and Valparaiso, Indiana this weekend to face the UIC Flames and Valparaiso Beacons.

The Redbirds face UIC on Friday night before heading to Valparaiso on Saturday. First serve on Friday is set for 6 p.m. CT while Saturday gets underway with first serve at 5 p.m. CT.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB

Illinois State junior Aida Shadewald eclipsed the 1,000-career kill mark during the first set of Illinois State's four-set match vs Drake on October 19.

Shadewald finished the match with eight kills as she becomes the 23rd Redbird with 1,000+ career kills.

Heading into this weekend, Shadewald is one of three MVC players with over 300 kills and is tied for 19th in the NCAA for total kills with 318.

FITTING RIGHT IN

Illinois State senior setter Mekaila Aupiu has fit right in since joining the Redbirds prior to the 2024 season.

Aupiu is one of seven setters in the country with more than 800 assists as the senior leads the nation with 880. Aupiu is averaging 9.67 assists per set in 2024.

SHADEWALD SHINING

Junior Aida Shadewald is top-20 in the nation in total points with 361.0, respectively.

Four players in the MVC have delivered 30-plus aces this season behind the service line, led by Shadewald's 37. The junior's 37 aces are tied for 18th most in the nation.

LEADING THE VALLEY

Illinois State enters this weekend leading the Missouri Valley in team kills (1,144) and team assists (1,065), sitting tied for the lead in assists with Valparaiso. Both marks are second in the NCAA.

NO LONGER A "GUEST" IN THE VALLEY

Illinois State freshman Khenedi Guest continues to make her mark during her debut season as a Redbird.

Guest is a three-time MVC Freshman of the Week honoree. The Benton, Arkansas native most recently received honors following a home sweep versus Indiana State and Evansville.

In MVC play, Guest is hitting .432 with 90 kills across 33 sets.
