Seymore Scores Late to Earn 1-1 Draw at Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. - Sophomore Aniya Seymore netted her first-career goal in the 86th minute Sunday to help Illinois State (3-7-3, 1-2-2 MVC) erase a 1-0 deficit and earn a 1-1 draw at Murray State (4-5-4, 0-2-3 MVC)

Illinois State came from behind to earn a result for the second-straight game this week, after trailing Valparaiso 1-0 and earning a 2-1 victory over the Beacons on Thursday at home.

The tying chance came off a corner kick as Erika Wells stepped up put the ball in play perfectly to earn her third assist over the last two games. Seymore's header went bar down near the top right corner to level the score.

Wells is the first Redbird since 2022 to tally 3 assists across two games. Current Redbird Hillary Griffin also did so in a three-game stretch with four assists during the 2022 campaign.

Illinois State answered with a 48th minute goal from Murray State after a scoreless first half. Madi Valenti made four first-half saves that helped keep the Racers off the board through the first 45. She finished with a career-high 8 saves in the game.

Seymore is the third Redbird this week and the fifth Redbird this season to score their first-career goal. Freshmen Chloe Cline, Eve Gricius and Eiley Henderson have found the back of the net while redshirt-sophomore Sammi Cenek has also scored for the Redbirds.
