KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Illinois State began a doubleheader weekend in Michigan on Friday night, as the host Western Michigan Broncos bested the Redbirds by a score of 5-2 on their home courts.
Western Michigan took the early lead by winning the doubles point, with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots to clinch the first point of the day. Illinois State would quickly tie the match up in singles however, as Adrian Dibildox defeated Jackson Boone at the No. 3 spot by a final of 6-2, 6-3. A win by the Broncos at the No. 2 spot would give them the lead back, but the Redbirds would tie things up at 2-2 thanks to a win by Tomas Valencia over Adrian Quiros by a final of 6-2, 6-4.
However, the Broncos would go onto win the final three singles matches two of which needed third-set tiebreakers, to take the match at 5-2. Illinois State will be back in action tomorrow in Kalamazoo, when they take on Dayton in a neutral site matchup at 11 a.m.
