EVANSTON, Ill. – Illinois State baseball was topped by Northwestern, 5-1, on Tuesday at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park in the first midweek contest of 2024.
Illinois State (2-5 overall) was led at the plate by sophomore Shai Robinson, who went 2-for-4 with a homerun, his first of 2024.
Northwestern improves to 2-5 as the 2024 season continues.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
The Wildcats got the scoring started in the bottom of the 2nd off an RBI single.
Robinson opened the scoring for the Redbirds in the 6th inning with a solo home run, but Northwestern responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to retake the lead.
Neither team would score over the final two and a third innings.

- Junior Tanner Perry made his second start of 2024, going 5.1 innings with seven strikeouts and four hits allowed
- Junior Joe Husak came on in relief for the Redbirds, going 2.2 innings with a strikeout
- The Redbirds totaled a season-low nine hits

Illinois State is scheduled to travel to Arkansas-Pine Bluff for a weekend series from March 1-3. First pitch from Pine Bluff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT Friday.
