LINCOLN, Neb. – Sunday's road match for the Illinois State women's tennis looked on paper to be an extremely tough one against Big Ten Conference foe Nebraska, and the result showed that as the Huskers defeated the Redbirds by a score of 6-1 at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
Nebraska picked up the early lead in doubles, with victories at the No. 3 and No. 1 spots, respectively, to earn the doubles point. As the action moved to singles, Nebraska would pick up straight-set wins in five of the six matches. However, the Redbirds would pick their lone point on the day at the No. 2 spot, as Lana Caculovic battled for a hard-fought three-set win over Isa Adrover Gallego by a score of 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-3), 10-8.
Illinois State returns home for its next match on Saturday, Feb. 10, when the Redbirds host Chicago State at 2:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Racquet Club.
