Redbirds Round Out 2024 Recruiting Class With 9 Additions

NORMAL, Ill. – ISU head coach Brock Spack and his staff announced the completion of the 2024 Illinois State football signing class Wednesday, as nine student-athletes were added to the roster on National Signing Day.

The nine additions are added to the group of 23 that were announced during the December signing period. The February group includes three defensive linemen, two wide receivers and one defensive back, running back, offensive lineman and kicker/punter.

The class is mostly comprised of recruited walk-ons and FCS transfers, with one high school NLI signee.

"We are excited to add this new group to our class that we announced in December," Spack said. "Heading into this second signing period, we did not have a lot of scholarship available, so we were looking for players that fit specific needs but could also potentially grow into scholarship players after starting their careers as walk-ons. We've had a lot of success with players starting as walk-ons and growing into key roles as starters for us in the past, we believe these guys have a chance to do the same. With the transfers, they should help fill immediate needs and add depth we were looking for."

Spack believes the 2024 class will only bolster a talented roster returning for the Redbirds.

"Rosters are a constant juggling act these days with the transfer portal," Spack continued. "However, we feel like with these new additions, our roster is rounding out well considering the number of starters and key reserves we have returning. This roster has a has a chance to be extremely competitive and we look forward to getting spring ball started to see these guys on the field."

Iroquois West HS: Three-year starter for head coaches Jason Thiele and Tim Hamilton … played on both the offensive and defensive lines, earning Iroquois West Offensive Player of the Year honors as a senior … also earned Kankakee all-area honors and first-team all-conference honors following senior season where he recorded over 100 tackles and tallied 80 plus pancake blocks … as a junior, recorded 91 tackles and 69 pancake blocks while earning all-area second-team honors …helped lead team the IHSA playoffs for the second straight season … as a sophomore, tallied 30 pancake blocks as team advanced to the second round of the state playoffs … also played basketball and participated in track.

Northridge HS: Kicked three seasons for head coach Chad Eppley … finished prep career with the most kicking points in school history … was a two-time Special Teams Player of the Year … as a senior, was 4-for-8 in field goal attempts (with two blocked kicks) and 30-of-33 in PAT attempts .. recorded 26 touchbacks on kickoffs … during junior season, was 8-for-11 on field goals with a long of 43 yards and was 34-of-38 in PAT attempts … helped team to a sectional championship that year … as a sophomore, was a perfect 4-for-4 in field goal attempts with a long of 37 and was 36-of-41 in PAT attempts … helped team to a state runner-up finish … also competed in track and field, qualifying for regionals in the high jump with a high mark of 6'2".

Personal: Son of Mike and Amy Ritchie … has a younger brother, Landon … his cousin, Nate Ritchie, played basketball at Indiana … high school teammate Wyatt Boals is also a 2024 signee … member of the honor roll and multiple time scholar-athlete selection.
