NORMAL, Ill. – A busy weekend of tennis awaits the Illinois State women this weekend, with back-to-back matches on Saturday and Sunday split between home and road for the Redbirds.
Action begins on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., when the Redbirds host Chicago State at the Evergreen Racquet Club. Following that match, the Redbirds will travel to St. Louis on Sunday to take on Washington University at 5 p.m. to cap off a busy weekend.
About The Redbirds
•   The Redbirds are off to a 3-1 start to the spring, with a 2-0 record at home.
•   Their lone loss came last weekend on the road against Big Ten Conference foe Nebraska by a score of 6-1.
•   Sophomore Lana Caculovic secured the lone point for the Redbirds in their road defeat at Nebraska, as she battled to a win at the No. 2 spot over Isa Adrover Gallego.Â
•   After dropping the first set in a close tiebreaker, Caculovic won the second set in a tiebreaker and the picked up a 10-8 win in the third-set tiebreaker to pick up the victory.
About The Cougars
•   Chicago State is 2-6 on the spring, with wins over Bradley and Marquette.
•   Most recently, the Cougars dropped a close 4-3 decision to Valparaiso on Wednesday at home.
•   The Cougars swept the doubles matches for the first time this season, but only followed with a pair of singles wins in the 4-3 loss.
About the Bears
•   WashU will begin its spring campaign this weekend, first with a match on Saturday against Rhodes College and then against the Redbirds on Sunday at the Forest Lake Tennis Club.
•   The Bears last competed in late September at the ITA Regionals held in St. Louis, where Amber Edmonds and Eliana Hanna had a bye in the first round and went on to beat Kalamazoo's Maddie Hurley and Juliana Pullen 8-2 in the Round of 32, before going onto defeat Chicago's Sarena Biria and Brooke Pedersen 8-7 (8-6) in the quarterfinal.Â
