SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Redbirds fell 10-0 in their Missouri Valley opener at Missouri State, dropping to 6-19 on the season. Illinois State had three hits on the day, including two in the third inning.
Abby Knight earned the first hit of the day for the Redbirds, followed by singles from both Delainey Bryant and Jayden Standish. Hannah Meshnick started the game, but was relieved in the second by Annie Volkers. Volkers went 2.1 innings in relief, giving up just two hits and no runs.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
Missouri State scored 10 runs on 10 hits to earn the run-rule victory over the Redbirds in five innings. In the top of the first, the Redbirds got two aboard, on a Missouri State error and a single from Abby Knight, but none were able to come across. The Bears came out strong in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on five hits. In the second, the Bears added five more runs on three hits to add insurance.
In the third inning, the Redbirds showed fight, earning hits from Delainey Bryant and Jayden Standish, but were unable to bring them around. Annie Volkers put together a strong relief effort, going 2.1 innings with just two hits and no runs, but the 'Birds were unable to come back from the early deficit.
ON DECK
The Redbirds will be back in action tomorrow, Mar. 16 at 2:00 p.m. CT to take another crack at the Missouri State Bears. The series will conclude with a single game on Sunday, Mar. 17 at 12:00 p.m. CT.
