Redbirds Roll To 6-1 Win Over Marquette

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – In what was another busy weekend for the Illinois State women's tennis team, the Redbirds once again went 2-0 and increased their winning streak to four matches in a row thanks to a 6-1 win over Marquette on Saturday afternoon at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington.

Marquette picked up its lone point of the match during doubles play, as the Golden Eagles secured wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots to take the early advantage over the Redbirds.

As action moved to singles play, ISU tied things up when Silvia Pomarolli defeated Tiana Windbuchler by a final of 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot. A win at the No. 3 spot by Nevena Kolarevic due to her opponent retiring from the match due to injury and then a 6-4, 6-3 win by Lana Caculovic over Emma Davis at the No. 2 spot would make the score 3-1 in favor of the Redbirds. Sofia Rodrigo would then clinch the victory for the Redbirds with a hard-fought three-set win by a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Lara Kaiser. Wins by Nuria Sanz at the No. 5 spot and a three-set win by Tijana Zlatanovic at the No. 1 spot would cap things off for the Redbirds in the 6-1 victory. 

Illinois State returns to action in two weeks, when they travel to Hawaii for a pair of matches as part of their spring break trip. The Redbirds will first take on Hawaii on March 13, before competing against Pacific the following day in Honolulu.
