Redbirds Head To Idaho To Compete In Boise State Spring Fling

NORMAL, Ill. – A rare opportunity has presented itself to the Illinois State men's tennis team, as the Redbirds will head to Boise, Idaho, this weekend to compete in a mid-season tournament at the Boise State Spring Fling Friday and Saturday at the Eagle Tennis Club.

"I am really looking forward to this weekend, as we get to play some teams we don't typically come across and the level of the schools for this event are very high with two ranked programs playing," ISU head coach Mark Klysner said. "I think it will be the perfect test for us and will allow us to get some real quality matches under our belt before continuing with a big conference match at home next Wednesday against Drake."

The field includes six teams, split into two brackets of three. Bracket A consists of host and No. 63 ranked Boise State, Eastern Washington and the Redbirds, while Bracket B consists of Idaho, Montana and Utah State. In the first round, each bracket will play a round-robin and the final round will pit the third-place team from each bracket against each other, the second-place team against each other, and the first-place teams against each other playing for the championship.

Illinois State begins the tournament on Friday, when it competes against Eastern Washington at 10 a.m. CT. The Redbirds will then face the host Broncos on Saturday at 10 a.m. to complete the round robin portion of the tournament. The outcomes of those two matches will dictate their opponent in the final round on Saturday evening.

Live scoring and results will be available on the men's tennis schedule page on GoRedbirds.com.
