LINCOLN, Neb. – The Illinois State men's tennis team took a break from Summit League play on Saturday, as the Redbirds traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska, to take on the No. 65 ranked Huskers. The Redbirds got out to a great start by taking the doubles point, but Nebraksa rallied in singles to defeat the Redbirds by a score of 5-2.
The match began with the Redbirds gaining an early advantage by winning the doubles point. The No. 3 tandem of Adrian Dibildox and Tom Bevan defeated Leo Linquet and Nic Wiedenhorn by a score of 6-3 to start things off, and then the Redbirds clinched the first point of the match when the No.1 team of Tin Ostro and Emiliano Gonzalez bested Calvin Mueller and Lars Johann by a final of 6-3.
However, Nebraska would rally to win five of the six singles matches to secure the win. The lone singles victory for the Redbirds came at the No. 1 spot, where Nam Pham picked up a hard-fought 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win over Anton Shepp to bring the score to its final at 5-2.
Illinois State returns to action and Summit League play on Wednesday, April 3, when the Redbirds travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to take on Oral Roberts.
