Laster Earns MIC Performance of the Week Honor

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State junior Alana Laster went big on floor for the Redbirds in their quad meet last weekend in Nebraska, and for her efforts she was honored with the Midwest Independent Conference Performance of the Week 

The Cape Coral, Florida, native competed on floor and vault for the Redbirds against Nebraska, North Carolina and Southeast Missouri State and put together one of the best performances of her career on the mat. Laster shined with a career-high score of 9.925 on the floor to tie for first place on the event with a pair of Nebraska gymnasts. In addition to her personal best on the floor, Laster also added a top 5 finish on vault with a 9.825 to tie for fourth place overall.

Laster currently ranks No. 4 in the MIC on floor and vault according to the NQS rankings from Road To Nationals. She and the Redbirds head to California this weekend for a pair of meets, with the first on Friday against UC Davis and Alaska Anchorage at 9 p.m. CT, before they travel to San Jose on Sunday for a quad meet with San Jose State, Yale and Boise State at 4 p.m. CT.
