EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Illinois State baseball team dropped a 9-1 decision at Charles A. Braun Stadium on Friday night as Evansville scored seven runs in the first four innings.
Illinois State (18-13 overall, 7-3 MVC) was led by two hits by sophomore Luke Lawrence.
Evansville improves to 16-17 overall and 5-5 in the MVC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A one-out grand slam in the third inning powered Evansville to a 4-0 lead.
The Aces added two more in the bottom of the 4th off a two-run home run to make it 7-0.
The home team added their eighth run in the 6th off an RBI groundout, pushing the score to 8-0.
A series of wild pitches in the 7th saw the ninth run cross home for Evansville as the score would be 9-0.
The Redbirds scored their first run of the evening in the top of the 9th with an RBI single by junior Tyler Herron.
