ISU Extends Win Streak To Five With 4-3 Win At Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Illinois State women's tennis team made it a clean sweep on its weekend trip to the state of Iowa, as the Redbirds defeated Drake by a score of 4-3 to pick up their fifth-straight win and improve to 6-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play with just one regular-season match remaining.

The Redbirds took an early advantage by winning the doubles point, thanks to wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. The No. 2 duo of Nevena Kolarevic and Silvia Pomarolli took down Mille Haagensen and Darinka Stepan by a final of 6-2, and then the doubles point was cliched by the No. 1 tandem of Lana Caculovic and Tijana Zlatanovic who defeated Rebecca Ehn and Ines Stephani by a score of 6-4.

As the action moved to singles, Drake was able to pick up tough singles wins at the No. 1 through No. 3 spots to put three points on the scoreboard. However, the short-handed Bulldogs were forced to forfeit at the No. 6 spot without a healthy player to compete which gave the Redbirds a second point on the day. Straight-set wins by Pomarolli at the No. 4 spot and Nuria Sanz at the No. 5 spot would then clinch the match for the Redbirds.

Illinois State will wrap up the regular season next Sunday, April 21, at home against Missouri State on Senior Day.
