NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's basketball team added a second newcomer during the 2024 transfer portal season, with former UNI standout guard Landon Wolf signing on to become the newest member of the Redbirds starting in the 2024-25 season.
"Landon Wolf addresses immediate needs for us in terms of shooting and positional length," said Pedon. "We are certainly familiar with his floor game and believe that his ability to make plays off the bounce is a fairly underrated aspect of his game. He has logged over 700 career minutes in the Missouri Valley Conference, and he understands what is required to wins games in our conference. We also love the competitive edge that Landon possesses. He comes to us with a lot to prove, and he made that very clear to us throughout his recruiting process. For those reasons and more, we are excited to welcome Landon to our Redbird family."
Wolf, a native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, comes to the Redbirds with two seasons of eligibility remaining. Last season with Northern Iowa as a redshirt sophomore, he played in 30 games, coming off the bench in each, and averaged 4.7 points, making 48.5 percent of his shots from the field (49-of-101), and 43.3 percent (29-of-67) from beyond the arc. He was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, and MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention.
The 6-5 guard scored a season-high 18 points in the opener at North Texas and scored in double-figures five times total during the year. He added 16 points at Valparaiso on February 14, and 14 at home against the Beacons on February 27. Seven times during the season he made two or more three-point baskets, including a stretch where he accomplished the feat four times in a five-game stretch within the heart of MVC play.
As a redshirt freshman in 2022-23 he played in all 32 games and averaged 24 minutes per game en route to being named to the MVC All-Bench Team. He was also named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Third Team, and to the CSC All-District squad. He averaged 7.4 points per game, making 79-of-196 shots from the field (40.3 percent) and 50-of-138 (36.2 percent) from beyond the arc.
He scored in double-figures nine times as a freshman with his season-high of 21 points coming at home against Belmont on February 26. He also scored 19 points against Northern Illinois on November 26, and opened his career with 18 points against Wartburg on November 22. He made multiple three-pointers 14 times during the year, including making five against Murray State on January 10, the middle of a five-game stretch with at least two three-pointers made. He redshirted his 2021-22 season as a true freshman.
Out of Cedar Falls High School, he was a Class 4A First Team All-State honoree and was a McDonald's All-America nominee. He finished fifth in the state of Iowa with 77 three-pointers made while averaging 16.9 points per game. As a junior he was named Third Team All-State and finished third in Class 4A in free throw percentage, making 32-of-35 free throws (91.4 percent) during the year.
Wolf joins guard Boden Skunberg as incoming transfers for the Redbirds in the 2024-25 season. That pair will be joined by 2023-24 All-State incoming freshmen Cade Norris and Jack Daugherty among the four newcomers to the squad next season.
