NORMAL, Ill. – Sophomore Tyrelle Chadwick threw 6.0 scoreless innings as Illinois State picked up a 3-1 series clinching victory over Valparasio on Saturday at Duffy Bass Field.
Chadwick recorded three strikeouts, allowed four hits, and gave up one walk as he picked up his third win of 2024. Sophomore Thomas Harper and junior Joe Husak came on in relief of Chadwick, throwing the final 3.0 innings with a strikeout and only one run allowed.
Offensively, the Redbirds (16-11 overall, 6-2 MVC)) got a trio of hits by sophomore Luke Lawrence while sophomore Daniel Pacella contributed two RBIs to move his season total to an MVC-best 41 this year.
Valparaiso drops to 10-18 overall, 2-6 in MVC play.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
Illinois State got on the board first in the bottom of the 3rd off Pacella's two-RBI single up the middle to plate Lawrence and senior Greg Nichols.
Senior Auggie Rasmussen would push in ILS' third run of the afternoon in the 3rd as well off an RBI fielder's choice, making it 3-0 ILS.
The Beacons scored in the top of the 8th off a bases-loaded double play, to make the score the final of 3-1.

	- Lawrence moves his hitting streak to 13 games, while Nichols now has a hit in 10 straight games
- Junior JT Sokolove moves his on-base streak to 15 games, the longest by a Redbird this season, going 2-for-3 Saturday
- Pacella records his team-leading 12th multi-RBI game this season
