CHICAGO, Ill. – Illinois State secured the series finale victory at UIC, 16-3, Sunday from Les Miller Field in seven innings.
The Redbirds (26-23 overall, 14-10 MVC) were led by Daniel Pacella as the sophomore went 4-for-5 at the plate with six RBIs.
UIC drops to 32-16 overall, 15-9 in MVC play, and 18-6 at home.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Illinois State got on the board first as Pacella sent out his ninth home run before junior Daniel Contreras contributed an RBI double for an early 4-0 ILS lead.
UIC trimmed the margin to two with three straight doubles in the 3rd to make the score 4-2.
The Redbirds scored three runs in the 4th and five runs in the 5th to build out a 12-3 lead over the Flames.
ILS put the game into run-rule territory in the 7th with an RBI single by Pacella, his sixth RBI of the afternoon, before adding three more runs in the frame for the 16-3 lead.

- Junior Carter Monke made his 7th start, throwing a seven-inning complete game with seven strikeouts
- With the win, Illinois State has its first series victory over UIC since April 2004
- Pacella's six RBIs are the most in a game for ILS since May 2023 (Luke Lawrence at Valparaiso)
