NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State Swimming and Diving head coach Riley Hilbrandt has announced the addition of assistant coach Ryan McCoy to her staff. McCoy previously spent four seasons at the University of Indianapolis (UIndy) where he helped lead the men's team to the Greyhounds' first-ever national title.
"I am very excited to add Ryan to our staff and have him be a part of the Redbird family," Hilbrandt said. "Not only does Ryan's collegiate career stand out, but his years of experience in the coaching world are impressive. I believe he will be a great addition to our program. When meeting Ryan, you could immediately connect with his love of the sport, as well as how important the coach to student-athlete relationship is. We can't wait to get Ryan to Normal and get to work."
During his tenure, the Greyhounds recorded eight event national titles at the Division II Championships, including four women's and four men's relay titles. UIndy totaled 76 All-Americans and 11 broken school records with McCoy on the coaching staff.
Before Uindy, McCoy served two years as a Graduate Assistant at Eastern Illinois for both the men's and women's programs. He received his master's degree in business administration at EIU.
"I'm very excited to become a member of the Redbird family," McCoy said. "I would like to thank Coach Hilbrandt for the opportunity to help make a positive impact on the program. Her vision for recruiting for the future, as well as her vision for the team moving forward, are exciting directions that were easy to subscribe to. I am looking forward to meeting the incredible women of the Illinois State swimming and diving program later this summer, and am looking forward to assisting the program towards its future."
McCoy grew up in Phoenix, Ariz., where he was a member of the Phoenix Swim Club. During his undergraduate years, he competed at Saint Louis University from 2014-18 where he was named the team captain his senior year. McCoy collected nine Atlantic-10 (A-10) Conference Championships and received accolades for being a two-time 2016 Olympic Trial qualifier in the 200-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly.
