NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State softball has announced the addition of Rachel O'Malley as an Assistant Coach to round out the coaching staff of Head Coach, Tina Kramos, Assistant Coach, Elaine Heflin, and Assistant Coach Kristina Burkhardt.
O'Malley began her career at the University of Indiana (2014-2018), as the starting shortstop for the Hoosiers, where she appeared in 215 games over her four years. O'Malley garnered Big Ten All-Defensive Team honors, Academic All Big Ten honors, as well as Big Ten Sportsmanship honors during her time at IU.
O'Malley comes to Illinois State after a stint at in-conference rival, Indiana State, where she served as an assistant coach for three seasons. During her time with the Sycamores, O'Malley helped to improve the team win percentage while also managing a director of operations role through organizing team travel arrangements.
Prior to Indiana State, O'Malley served as a graduate assistant for Moorehead State where she was then promoted to an assistant coach position during her final three years with the Eagles.
O'Malley earned her Bachelor of Science in Sports Communications with a focus on broadcasting from the University of Indiana in 2018. Aside from her experience in the collegiate landscape, O'Malley also brings experience coaching the Beverly Bandits, a travel team based in Chicago, Illinois. During her tenure with the Bandits O'Malley mentored players who went on to play in conferences such as the SEC, the Pac 12, and the Big Ten.
