NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State offense rushed for over 250 yards on the ground and tallied 518 yards of total offense in its 31-7 win over in-state rival Eastern Illinois in the 112th Mid-America Classic last Saturday at Hancock Stadium. Much of that success was due to great play on the offensive line, including senior left tackle JJ Guedet who was the highest-graded player up front for the Redbirds which helped earn him Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week honors on Tuesday.
The Washington, Illinois, native anchored the offensive line unit that helped running back Wenkers Wright rush for 150 yards and a score on the ground for his third-consecutive 100-plus yard effort. The ISU offense also put up a season-best 518 yards of total offense against the Panthers, which featured a balanced attack of 253 yards on the ground and 273 yards through the air while allowing just one sack on the day.
Illinois State hosts its third-straight home game this Saturday, when the No. 15 ranked Redbirds welcome in No. 2 ranked North Dakota State for the MVFC opener at Hancock Stadium as part of Homecoming festivities at ISU. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
