MACOMB, Ill. – Freshman Chloe Cline's second goal of the season lifted Illinois State (2-3-1, 0-0-0 MVC) over Western Illinois (0-5-0, 0-0-0 OVC) Sunday in Macomb, the Redbirds first road win of the season.
Cline struck in the ninth minute off an assist on a corner kick from Jade Rehberger, earning her second game-winning goal of the year. Abby Hall tallied her first assists as a Redbird on the goal. The score was paired with redshirt freshman Madi Valenti's second shutout of the year, securing a win for Illinois State.
From there Illinois State dominated chances but couldn't break through for another goal. The Redbirds poured 17 shots on the Leathernecks, including 11 on frame. Illinois State generated 10 corner kicks in the win, marking the second time this season the Redbirds have finished with 10-plus corner kicks.
Valenti made three saves in the shutout and corralled a late free kick from Western Illinois just outside the box.
