YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Illinois State swim and dive squad completed day one of the Eastern Classic on Friday afternoon at Jones Natatorium.
In the first event of the day, Junior Selena Corona earned a sixth-place finish in the 1M dive with a score of 207.05. Freshman Reese Huber recorded a score of 179.00 in her first appearance as a Redbird. Sophomore Emma Thompsen tallied a score of 175.85 in her first meet this season.
The Redbirds A 400 Y Medley relay team of Tyler, Ostendorf, Snow, and Turken secured a fourth-place finish with a mark of 3:52.1. The B team, made up of Boulden, Fris, Watson, and Dameworth, tallied a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:56.85.
Sophomores Hope Westphal and Amelia Murphy earned season-best times in the 500 Y Free with times of 5:05.1 and 5:23.62.
In the 200 Y IM, Sophomore Avery Watson led the way for the Redbirds with a sixth-place finish and a mark of 2:12.68. Senior Delaney Boulden tallied a season-best with a time of 2:13.34.
Senior Ella Turken paced Illinois State in the 50 Y Free with a season-best mark of 24.29. Senior Mia Snow finished ninth with a time of 24.34, as Sophomore Ines Kieffel and Freshman Elle Dameworth finished with season-best marks of 24.73 and 24.87.
In the 800 Y Free relay, the Redbirds A squad earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 8:04.24 to close out day one. Action from Ypsilanti will resume Saturday at 9 a.m.
