CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The first day of action at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships wrapped up on Thursday, as the Redbirds played through singles qualifying matches looking to advance to the main draw on Friday at the Atkins Tennis Center in Champaign.
However, the Redbirds were not able to push anyone through to the singles main draw as each of the five ISU competitors suffered defeats at the hands of their counterparts. Silvia Pomarolli and Nuria Sanz were able to pick up wins in the consolation round later in the afternoon to put a cap on the first day of action.Â
Two rounds of doubles matches will begin the action on Friday morning at 8 a.m., followed by one round of singles in the main draw later in the afternoon. ISU's Lana Caculovic will play in the main draw on Friday looking to advance to the round of 16 on Saturday.
