PEORIA, Ill. – Junior Nora Brady recorded the fastest 6K time (20:38.89) in Illinois State program history as the Redbird cross country team closed out the regular season at the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday afternoon.
Brady crushed her personal-best mark by over a minute to finish in fifth place. Brady beat the previous 6K school record, which was set by Mattison Plummer in last year's Missouri Valley Conference Championships, by two seconds.
"Big performance today by Nora," said head coach Jeff Bovee. "She has been ready to perform and put it all together today. I'm so proud of her. More to come as we head into the postseason."
Three other Redbird women also set personal best times, including freshmen Pauline Schedler and Cameron Crump by over 30 seconds and fifth-year Viviana Sanfilippo by just under 30 seconds. Sophomore Astrid Van Breedam was ISU's final point scorer, finishing 73rd with a time of 21:56.02
"Really pleased with Vivi, Cameron and Pauline," said Bovee. "Huge improvements by them all. Pauline was the second-best freshman in the field. Vivi and Cameron filled new roles with a couple of teammates struggling with illness. They stepped up big time."
Sophomore Julian Baker led the Redbird men in the 8K for the second consecutive race, finishing 20th with a time of 24:33.32. Junior Cayde de Waal finished three seconds behind him in 22nd. Sophomores Will Gelon and Luke Barham crossed the finish line in 42nd and 88th place, respectively. True freshman Logan Scott took 95th and set a personal-best time of 25:37.53.
"Strong front two for the men with Julian and Cayde leading the way again this week," said Bovee. "Our men struggled today after number two, and we need to become more dependable as we go into MVC."
Both the men's and women's teams placed sixth. Eleven total Redbirds placed in the top 100 of their respective races.
