NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State soccer remains unbeaten in its last eight games with a 0-0 draw with UIC Sunday evening at Adelaide Street Field. The draw marks the first tie in the all-time series between the two programs.
The Redbirds recorded their sixth scoreless draw of the season to extend their unbeaten streak in conference play to six games. Illinois State also tallied its 10th shutout of the season, matching the third most in program history and the most in a season since 2019. Redshirt Sophomore Madi Valenti added her 14th career shutout and now passes Sasha Reiber (2008-09) for fifth all-time in program history.
In the opening moments, the Redbirds looked to find an early advantage in the contest after drawing a pair of corners and recording a pair of shots in the first 20 minutes. Illinois State would add a pair of shots later and outpaced the Flames in shots in the half, 4-2, but wouldn't find the back of the net as the score remained level at 0-0.
As the second half began, the Flames gained momentum as they forced two saves from Valenti in the opening 20 minutes of the second frame. Illinois State responded to UIC pressure with four shots of their own in the remaining moments of the game, but were unable to find a winning goal as the contest ended level at 0-0.
The Redbirds outshot the Flames 9-7, marking the fifth straight game Illinois State has outshot its opponent, which is the longest this season.
