NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Illinois State soccer fell to Belmont 2-0 Thursday afternoon at E.S. Rose Park in the final regular season contest of the 2025 campaign.
The Bruins capitalized on a corner kick in the sixth minute of the contest to take an early 1-0 advantage. Following the opening goal, the two squads would fight for their own share of possession as the second shot of the contest would come in the 30th minute by Senior Jade Rehberger. The look from Rehberger was the only shot in the half from Illinois State entering the halftime break.
In the opening moments of the second half, Freshman Rylann Law found Senior Abby Hall in the box, but Hall was unable to pull a goal back for the Redbirds. Minutes later, in the 63rd minute, Belmont would add another goal to extend its lead to 2-0.
Despite the defeat, Illinois State secured postseason play with its 1-0 over Drake on Oct. 23 and remains the No. 4 seed in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Redbirds, as the No. 4 seed, will host the No. 5 seed Southern Illinois in the first round of the tournament, Sunday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. at Adelaide Street Field. The contest will be available to watch on ESPN+.
