ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Valley Conference named five Illinois State cross country student-athletes to the 2025 MVC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Team for their performance both in the classroom and in competition.
To meet this honor, student-athletes must compete in two regular season meets OR finish among the first 20 runners at the conference championship, hold at least a cumulative 3.5 grade point average (GPA) and be a sophomore or above in athletic and academic standing.
"As a coaching staff, we're out there to recruit quality students and athletes," said Illinois State Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Jeff Bovee. "It takes a lot of effort by the student-athlete to achieve in the classroom, but we're fortunate to have a lot of great support staff here to help ensure our student-athletes have success."
The Redbird men's squad had two runners meet qualifying standards:
Gelon and Oleson are both first time MVC Cross Country Scholar-Athletes.
On the women's side, three Redbirds were selected to the MVC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Team:
This is the first time any of these women have earned this honor in cross country. Brady finished seventh at the conference championships and received the Elite 18 Award, given to the top female cross country student-athlete in the conference.
