Illinois State Athletics Announces Competitive Excellence Fee to Support Program Growth and Student-Athletes

NORMAL, Ill. – As anticipation builds for another exciting Redbird Football FCS Playoff run, Illinois State Athletics has announced the introduction of a Competitive Excellence Fee as part of the 2026 football season ticket renewal process.

The Competitive Excellence Fee (CEF) is designed to provide direct support through revenue sharing opportunities for Illinois State Football and its student-athletes, helping the program remain competitive amid the evolving landscape of the NCAA and FCS Football. The CEF represents an investment in the future of Redbird Football through the recruitment and retention of student-athletes, ensuring we remain among the FCS elite programs.

"Our supporters' continued generosity is more important than ever," ISU Director of Athletics Dr. Jeri Beggs stated. "Every gift, every season ticket purchase makes an impact on our ability to build championship-caliber teams and provide the best possible experience for our student-athletes."

Under the new structure, 100 percent of the Competitive Excellence Fee for football will stay within the football program and directly benefit student-athlete initiatives. Funds will be allocated toward revenue sharing opportunities.

Recent NCAA changes now allow universities to share revenue with student-athletes, and the Competitive Excellence Fee will play a vital role in supporting the recruiting and retention efforts at Illinois State.

"ISU Football is primed for sustained success well into the future," head coach Brock Spack said. "We need your help ensuring the recruitment and retention of first-class student-athletes. This competitive excellence fee is another step in the direction by our administration to adapt to the changing ways of college athletics and I couldn't support it more. These players deserve your support."

Season ticket renewals for Illinois State Football opened Monday, December 1, and the renewal deadline is February 1, 2026. Fans are encouraged to renew their seats early for what promises to be another thrilling season on Jay and Lori Bergman Field at Hancock Stadium. New season tickets may also be purchased at this time as well.
