Redbird Diving Travels to Windy City for UIC Diving Invite

CHICAGO, Ill.--  The Illinois State Diving team will travel to the Windy City to compete against UIC inside Flames Natatorium on Saturday, February 8. Action will begin at 11 a.m.

The Redbirds have not competed since January 18 in Cedar Falls against UNI.

LAST TIME OUT

Against UNI, the diving competition was highlighted by Eva Reyes who broke a Glen F. Henry facility record in 1-meter diving with a score of 301.80 on the boards.

REDBIRDS IN THE VALLEY

Illinois State has four divers in the top-five for the 1-meter diving event. After stellar performances at Purdue, Eva Reyes is in first place in the MVC with a score of 283.65, followed by Selena Corona (229.35), Emma Thompson (229.35) and Isabel Poggenklass (180.15).

On the 3-meter board, four divers are also top-five in the Valley for the Red and White. Reyes is at the top of the podium with a score of 261.38 as Corona (232.80), Thompson (213.90), and Poggenklass follow Reyes (186.00).

In the Platform Diving event for the MVC, Reyes is second with a score of 184.30. Meanwhile, Selena Corona ranks third with a score of 160.70.

MVC HONORS (3-Peat)

Senior Eva Reyes was named Diver of the Week three times this season. The most recent honor coming on January 22, after the Birds faced UNI.

Reyes recorded a lifetime best on day one at UNI claiming the 3-meter diving title with a score of 290.85. On day two, Reyes broke a Glen F. Henry Pool record by posting a score of 301.80.

HITTING THE BOOKS

The Redbirds received recognition for the CSCAA Fall Scholar All-America Team.  ISU recorded a 3.63 GPA. In total, 27 members of the team were named to the honor roll for the semester.

SCOUTING THE FLAMES

UIC, most recently competed against Missouri State (Jan. 24-25) where the Flames fell to the Bears by a 251.5-98.5 final. Although the Flames did have a bright spot in diving competition with junior Kerry-Leigh Morrison (Gauteng, South Africa) claiming the 1-meter (307.43) and diving title and taking fourth on the 3-meter board (248.10).

Head diving coach Ashley Dell is in her third season at the helm of the UIC men's and women's diving programs.
