SEDONA, Ariz. – A start of a round, followed by a day and a half of weather delays, saw the Redbirds close the door on what ended up as an 18-hole Red Rocks Invitational, as ISU placed fifth overall in the field in the weather-shortened tournament.
The teams made it through just past the halfway point of the opening round before play was stopped because of excess snow. The following day – to finish the first rounds' holes – the play was never started with snow and a large amount of water on the course, as play of the opening – and eventually only – round was finished.
Jinyoung Yun recorded her seventh top-10 finish of the season and her 14th round at or under par as she finished sixth overall with a one-under 71.
Grand Canyon shot an even-par 288 to secure the 18-hole tournament title, while Northern Arizona (289), South Dakota State (291), and North Dakota State (291) finished just ahead of Illinois State's 292. Seattle (293), Cal Baptist (293), Morehead State (294), Weber State (298), Xavier (298), Delaware (299), Oral Roberts (300), Wichita State (302), Navy (305), Columbia (306), Southern Utah (309), Northern Colorado (311), Montana (325), and Towson (326) rounded out the 19 schools in the tournament field.
Yun had two birdies and 15 pars in her three-day 18-hole adventure, finishing sixth overall. Lory Paradis had a birdie and 15 pars for her one-over 73, which saw her tie for 19th place. Freshman classmates Elise Fennell and Jessica Jolly each carded a two-over74 for their round, Fennell using 16 pars and Jolly two birdies and 14 pars to each tie for 31st.
Morgan Jones tied for 42nd with a three-over 75, using a birdie and 14 pars, while Reagan Kennedy, playing as an individual, had a dozen pars en route to her 80, which tied for 85th.
The Redbirds are back in action on Friday, March 28 when the team travels to Aiken, South Carolina, to compete in the More Than Golf Invitational, hosted at Old Barnwell Country Club.
