ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Illinois State baseball junior Tyrelle Chadwick has been named Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Chadwick shut down Western Illinois in Saturday's 10-0 win with seven scoreless innings, requiring 98 pitches and facing 26 batters.Â
The Kamloops, B.C. native retired the first five Leathernecks before the visitors got their first base runner on a walk in the top of the 2nd.
After retiring 11 of the next 12 batters he faced, Chadwick surrendered his two hits on the afternoon in the top of the 6th with a single and double in consecutive at-bats.
With the bases loaded following a hit-by-pitch, Chadwick worked his way out of the jam with a ground out to second base to close out his day on the mound.
Thanks to his performance, Chadwick earned his first win of 2025 and now sits with an ERA of 2.19 across 12.1 innings of work for the Redbirds.
Chadwick is the first Redbird to earn MVC weekly honors in 2025 and is the first MVC Pitcher of the Week for the Birds since Carter Monke last May.
Illinois State is scheduled to host SIUE on Tuesday, March 18, at 5 PM from Duffy Bass Field.
ON DECK
Following Tuesday, Illinois State begins MVC play with a trip to Nashville for three games against Belmont on Friday-Sunday. Saturday and Sunday will be available to watch via ESPN+.
