Redbirds Secure Sunday Series Win over Bruins, 14-2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In the series finale from E.S. Rose Park, Illinois State baseball secured the series with a 14-2 win, in seven innings, over Belmont on Sunday.

Illinois State (8-13 overall, 2-1 MVC) totaled 14 hits, including four home runs.

Belmont (9-16 overall, 1-2 MVC) recorded four hits.

Top Hitters:

• Brayden Bakes: 3-for-3, 3 HR, 6 RBI
• Daniel Pacella: 2-for-5, HR, 2B, RBI
• Josh Outlaw: 2-for-4, RBI, 2 R

Pitching Breakdown:

• Tyrelle Chadwick (W, 2-1): 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K's
• Matthew Donnison: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB
• Michael Addari: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Scoring Breakdown:

• Belmont got on the board with a sac fly in the bottom of the 1st
• Brayden Bakes sent a solo shot off the left field videoboard in the top of the 2nd to even the score at 1-1
• The Redbirds exploded for 11 runs in the 4th with a HR from Daniel Pacella, RBI double from Graham Mastros, back-to-back-to-back-to-back RBI singles from Josh Outlaw, Luke Stulga, Kyle Gibson, and Shai Robinson, a Belmont wild pitch, and a three-run HR by Bakes.
• Belmont got a run back in the 4th with an RBI groundout
• Illinois State saw Outlaw cross the plate in the 5th to make it a 10-run game again at 12-2.
• Bakes would send out his third home run of the game, this time of the two-run variety, in the 6th to push the margin to 14-2.

• Judah Morris extended his on-base streak to 18 games, longest by a Redbird this season
• Bakes records the first 3-HR game for the Birds since Ryan Cermak at Western Illinois in April 2022.
• Pacella records his seventh home run of the year
• ILS sent 14 batters to the plate in the 4th inning
• The 10 runs in the 4th inning are the most by ILS since March 2024 (9 runs at Indiana)
• The last time ILS scored 10+ runs in an inning came in the 11th inning (16 runs) of a 27-11 win at Belmont to start the 2019 season.
