AIKEN, S.C. – Behind a team-leading three-under-par 70 from Morgan Jones, the Illinois State women's golf team stands in fourth place after the opening round of the 2025 More Than Golf Invitational.
Jones is tied for second individually on the par-73 course, while Jinyoung Yun's opening round of 76 has her tied for 19th.
ISU carded a team-score of 304 (12 over par), which is in fourth in a tightly compacted field. Georgia Southern – ranked 36th in the country – leads the tournament with an opening-round 294, while Dartmouth (297), and Delaware (303) sit just ahead of ISU. Kennesaw State (305), East Tennessee State (309), Charleston Southern (309), Columbia (314), Georgetown (314), Oakland (322), Augusta (324), and Albany (338) round out the 12 schools in the tournament.
Jones started her day strong with four birdies over her first nine holes, making the turn at -4; however, a slow start to her back nine dropped her to one shot under par. She closed strong with four pars and a pair of birdies down the stretch to finish with the three-under 70.
Yun opened with two birdies over her first three holes and made the turn with a one-under 35. She had two double bogeys over her opening three holes of the back nine; however, she finished strong with six pars and closed her day with a three-over 76.
Lory Paradis and Elise Fennell each carded an opening-round 79 (+6), as Paradis had four birdies and six pars, with Fennell using three birdies and seven pars for her opening round.
Playing as an individual, Alex Sparrow had a birdie and 11 pars for a seven-over 80, which is tied for 37th, while Jessica Jolly had a birdie and five pars for her opening round.
The Redbirds will tee off starting at 7:30 a.m. (CT) alongside Kennesaw State and Charleston Southern for the second round of the three-round tournament.
