NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State soccer fell 5-1 to Butler at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl on Thursday afternoon.
In the opening minutes of the game, Redshirt Madi Valenti denied a Butler goal-scoring opportunity with a diving save in the sixth minute. Less than two minutes later, Freshman Rylann Law pressed and found the ball on the edge of the box and scored. However, the goal was overturned due to offside to keep the contest even at 0-0.
The Bulldogs would find a goal later in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Butler would later extend their lead with a goal from a corner kick to make the score 2-0 in the 35th minute.
Butler would maintain their 2-0 lead entering the break and would increase their lead to begin the second half with a goal in the 52nd minute to make the score 3-0.
Moments later, freshmen Gracie Petrie and Rylann Law would link up to pull a goal back for the Redbirds with a goal from Law in the 56th minute to make the score 3-1. Law would secure her first career goal as Petrie would also record her first career assist.
Butler would respond with a goal seconds later in the 56th minute to move the score to 4-1. The Bulldogs would add a goal in the 63rd minute to extend the lead to 5-1.
Sophomore Eiley Henderson made her first appearance of the season with 33 minutes played after returning from injury. Sophomore Rylie Monahan, a transfer from TCU, recorded her first minutes played in Illinois State colors with 40 minutes played in the contest.
