Durkee Earns MVC Defender Of The Week Honors

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Valley Conference league office has announced this week's (9/2) women's soccer players of the week. Redbird Sophomore Kaya Durkee was selected as this week's MVC Defender of the Week. 

Last week, Durkee helped Illinois State post back-to-back shutout wins against Western Illinois and UT Martin. On Thursday against the Leathernecks, Durkee tallied her first two collegiate assists in a 5-0 win for the Redbirds. Durkee became the first defender since Haylee Eastridge to tally two assists in a game for Illinois State. 

On Sunday, Durkee helped the Redbirds tally a 1-0 shutout to record back-to-back shutouts for the first time under second-year head coach Raleigh DeRose. Sunday's shutout is also the first back-to-back shutout since the 2020-21 season for Illinois State.
