NORMAL, Ill. – In what proved to be a wild weekend in college football, Illinois State pulled out a thrilling 38-36 double overtime win in a marathon 6-plus hour contest last Saturday at Hancock Stadium over visiting North Alabama. That victory kept Illinois State in the Top 5 of the national FCS rankings, as the Redbirds were selected at No. 5 in this week's AFCA FCS Coaches Poll, presented by Hudl. The Redbirds are one of seven Missouri Valley Football Conference teams ranked for the third-consecutive week in the poll.
ISU was also ranked once again in this week's Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll, coming in at No. 7. North Dakota State remains the No. 1 team in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll with 25 first-place votes, followed by South Dakota State in second and the Redbirds in fifth. Southern Illinois (12), North Dakota (T-15), South Dakota (18) and Youngstown State (19) round out this week's MVFC representatives in the poll.
The Redbirds will have a bye week, before welcoming in No. 1 ranked North Dakota State on Oct. 4 for a 6 p.m. kickoff to open Missouri Valley Football Conference action.
