Sanz/Lindh Win Flight Two Doubles Title On Final Day Of Redbird Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. – It was championship Sunday at the Gregory Street Courts, as teams from all over the Missouri Valley Conference wrapped up the final day of competition at the Redbird Invitational. The Redbirds were able to bring home a doubles title thanks to the duo of Nuria Sanz and Emma Lindh, who picked up a win in Flight 2 to bring home some hardware for the Redbirds.

It was not easy for Sanz and Lind, however, as they needed to go to a tiebreaker against Jones and Tapia-Cruz from Belmont but eventually came away with an 8-7 (4) win. That would be the only action in doubles on the day for the Redbirds, who did not play their final matched in Flights 1 and 3.

In singles action, Silvia Pomarolli picked up a consolation championship in Flight 2, as she picked up a win over Bradley's  M. Pukhina by a score of 6-0, 6-4. To cap off a strong day, Sanz would also earn a consolation championship, as she earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over M. Belogliadova of Bradley in Flight 3. Nicole Iosio would also pick up a win on championship Sunday, as she defeated A. Peterson of UNI to take 7th place in Flight 4. 

The Redbirds will have one more tournament remaining this fall, when they compete at the ITA Regionals hosted by Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, from October 16-19.
