Sammi Bunch Named MVC Libero of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After recording her 1,000th collegiate dig in Illinois State's four-set win over Indiana State, Redbird senior libero Sammi Bunch has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Libero of the Week, announced by the MVC office on Tuesday morning.

She had 43 digs in seven sets during the week, while Illinois State won both of their matches this week, in three sets against Bradley on Tuesday and in four sets against Indiana State on Friday.

The Romeoville, Illinois, native reached 1,000 digs for her college career in the weekend finale against Indiana State and has recorded 20 or more digs in a match in each of her last three contests, and six times overall this season. Her digs per set average led the MVC on the week and was the eighth highest in the NCAA during that same span. Her dig per set average has been at 5.41 over her last seven matches, and she raised her dig per set national ranking from 139th to 91st over her two matches during the week.

During the week she helped ISU hold their opponents to a .143 attack percentage, second-best in the MVC over the two-game span, and 48th-best in the NCAA. She is second in the MVC in digs per set during the three weeks of MVC's contests and has the most total digs of any player in the conference in MVC play.

Illinois State returns to action on Friday, October 16 at Evansville before coming back an evening later at Indiana State.
