ST. LOUIS – Illinois State sophomore forward Rylann Law was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. It is her first weekly honor this season and the fourth for the Redbirds.
The honor comes after Law recorded her first career brace with two goals and one assist against UNI on Sunday. She was one of two Redbirds to score two goals against the Panthers, joining Maggie Dowling.
The braces by Dowling and Law marked the first time two Redbirds have recorded multiple goals in the same match since Kate Del Fava and Natalie Vaughn-Low each recorded a brace against Missouri State on Nov. 8, 2019.
Law doubled the lead against UNI in the 23rd minute, scoring in the bottom right corner off her right foot following an assist from Kaya Durkee.
Law completed her brace at 58:02, with Sammi Cenek and Dowling providing the assists. Just 50 seconds later, Dowling found the back of the net for the second time in the match, with Law earning the assist. The 50-second span between goals ranks as the 10th-fastest consecutive goals in program history.
Law's assist was one of six assists for the Redbirds on Sunday. It marked the first time the Redbirds have recorded five or more assists in a match since Sept. 10, 2023, against Western Illinois.
Law has four goals this season with a team-leading four assists and currently ranks second in the MVC and 78th in the nation with 1.58 shots on goal per game.
The Redbirds are back in action on Sunday against Southern Illinois. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex in Carbondale, Ill.
