NORMAL, Ill. -- Illinois State's Seth Nelson earned Missouri Valley Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
The junior from Boise, Idaho, claimed his first-career MVC honor after capturing his third event win of the year in the pole vault, clearing 5.20m at the Blue Demon Alumni Classic in Chicago last Friday.
Nelson previously took home first in the pole vault at the Coughlan-Malloy Cup on Jan. 17 and the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Jan. 23, when he broke the ISU program record with a personal-best mark of 5.30m. He leads the MVC in the event and is tied for 12th in the Midwest Region and 46th in the NCAA.
