ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Valley Conference has announced its sixth selection of weekly awards on Tuesday morning, per the league office. Redshirt Freshman Luke Teschke was nominated for the MVC's March 31 awards.
Teschke was awarded the Valley's Newcomer of the Week following another strong outing on the mound in the Redbirds 15-9 victory over Evansville in the series finale on Sunday. In the win, Teschke tallied a career-high six strikeouts across 5.0 innings pitched. Teschke additionally limited the Purple Aces to one run on two hits. In his last two starts, Teschke has allowed one run on two hits in each contest.
With Teschke's selection, six different Redbirds have been awarded a weekly honor this season. Illinois State has had a player selected for an award in six out of the MVC's last seven selections and in the last five straight weeks.
