NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State football team officially wrapped up spring practices on Saturday, as the Redbirds held their annual Spring Showcase Scrimmage on Jay and Lori Bergman Field at Hancock Stadium. With sunny skies and excited Redbird fans in the stands, the game was tied after regulation and headed to overtime, with the Red Team coming out on top 23-20 over the White Team in double OT for the victory.
Scoring Summary:
•   The first touchdown of the day was scored on the second drive of the contest, as the White Team needed just five plays to find the end zone as Tyler Lofton broke free for a 39-yard touchdown run to make the score 7-0.
•   In the second quarter, the Red Team tied things up with a 9-play, 51-yard scoring drive that ended on a 4-yard touchdown run by Anthony Hall to knot things up at 7-7.
•   On the ensuing drive, the White Team answered with a score of their own as Lofton caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Chase Kwiatkowski to cap off a 7-play scoring drive that made the score 14-7 at halftime.
•   Neither team scored in the third quarter, but the Red Team would trim the lead to 14-10 early in the fourth quarter on a 42-yard field goal by Casey Roney.
•   Two possessions later, the Red Team would take the lead on a 14-yard touchdown run by Lofton to make the score 17-14 late in the contest.Â
•   A 25-yard field goal by Michael Cosentino would then tie the game at 17-17 late in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.
•   Neither team scored in the first OT period, so the game moved into a second extra period where the White Team had the ball first and Cosentino connected on a 34-yard field goal attempt to put them up 20-17.
•   Lofton would then win the game for the Red Team, as she barreled his way into the end zone from one yard out on 4th and 1 to win the game 23-20.
