NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State Athletics officially unveiled a permanent display for the ISU Athletics Percy Family Hall of Fame inside CEFCU Arena on Wednesday, with past Hall of Famers, friends, donors, supporters and staff on hand to commemorate the occasion.
The ceremony featured remarks from Illinois State University President Dr. Aondover Tarhule, Director of Athletics Dr. Jeri Beggs and from Rick Percy on behalf of his family. The Illinois State Athletics Hall of Fame was formed in 1971 with the 17 members of the inaugural class. Every year since, Illinois State's best student-athletes, coaches, administrators and contributors have been inducted into the Hall of Fame to signify their extraordinary accomplishments to Illinois State Athletics and Illinois State University as a whole. In 2013, it was renamed the Illinois State Athletics Percy Family Hall of Fame in recognition of many years of loyal support of Redbird Athletics from the Percy Family.
The interactive installation curated by D1 Design Group and powered by Rocket Alumni Solutions features an interactive touchscreen display where fans, alumni and Hall of Famers can see pictures and read biographies whenever they visit campus. Each year, the Percy Family Hall of Fame display will be updated with new content for the latest Hall of Fame inductees and will be bolstered with archived photos and video. The area will also feature graphics and signage that will honor the support of the Percy Family and all the Percy Family Hall of Fame honorees.
"The Percy Family Athletics Hall of Fame has been in need of a permanent home, and we are thrilled that is now installed and open for use inside CEFCU Arena," Illinois State Director of Athletics Dr. Jeri Beggs said. "I can't thank the Percy Family enough for putting their name on this special group of individuals and I know our fans will love the final product. Our Hall of Fame recipients are the true legacy of Redbird Athletics, and now they will be seen by thousands of fans, community members, and students daily."
The display will not only allow Illinois State Athletics to highlight and honor Percy Family Hall of Famers past and present, but it will also serve as a one-stop location for ISU Athletics history. The display will have the ability to search for historical items like retired numbers, ISU All-Americans, conference and tournament championship teams, Olympians and Redbirds in the Pros. The display will continuously be updated in effort to further preserve the history and legacy of the Redbirds.
