NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State Baseball Head Coach Steve Holm has announced the addition of Chase Brundage to his coaching staff, serving as an assistant coach.
"First off, we'd like to thank Gavin Weyman for his dedication to our program for the last two seasons, specifically to our pitching staff," said Holm. "We are certainly better now than when he came aboard. We are ecstatic to welcome someone with Chase's pedigree to our staff. He has been developing as a coach for many years, and he's someone I've had my eye on for quite some time. I'm confident our entire program will feel the impact of his leadership and expertise from the moment he arrives."
Brundage joins the Redbird staff after spending seven seasons with the Des Moines Area Community College program, serving as the pitching/catching coach and recruiting coordinator over the last three years. Under his guidance, pitchers earned 22 ICCAC Pitcher of the Week honors, 14 All-Region honors, four National Pitcher of the Week honors, one Region Pitcher of the Year honor, and one All-American honor. Additionally, he helped the catching group collect the highest caught-stealing percentage in the ICCAC at .139 during the 2024 season and .113 in the 2025 season.
Brundage played a critical role in recruiting efforts at DMACC. He helped recruit and develop a pitching staff that led the Bears to Region 11 and North Plains District tournament titles and helped the team advance twice in the 2024 NJCAA Division II World Series. Nine pitchers later committed to NCAA Division I, Division II, and Division III programs, along with two additional players committing to NAIA programs. Brundage continued to be a vital part of the Bears' staff, helping the Bears reach the Region 11 tournament championship game for a second straight year in 2025.
Brundage obtained his Associate of Arts degree in the spring of 2021 at DMACC before completing a Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree at Iowa State University in the spring of 2023.
Prior to coaching, Brundage attended Urbandale High School in Urbandale, Iowa, where he was a part of two state-championship teams as a player in 2018 and 2019. Following graduation, he coached in the program for two summers as the head junior varsity coach and assistant varsity coach.
