NORMAL, Ill. – Three goals over an eight-minute span late in the first half provided all the scoring needed, as the Illinois State Redbirds won 3-0 over the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons at Adelaide Street Field on Sunday afternoon.

Illinois State, now 3-1-3 on the season, complete an unblemished home non-conference season for the first time since 2009, and ISU picks up its second clean sheet of the season in the process.

After a scoreless opening 33 minutes that saw the Redbirds pepper the Mastodon goal with nine shot attempts before Maggie Dowling was the first to find the back of the net when she took a pass from both Rylann Law and Rowann Law to score her first collegiate goal in what would eventually become the game-winner.

After waiting nearly 35 minutes before seeing the first goal go into the back of the net, the Redbirds needed just over five minutes before the second goal when Kaya Durkee scored her first goal of the season with just over five minutes remaining on the first-half clock.

Two minutes later Ava Watson also scored her first goal of the season on a shot that hit the bottom of the crossbar, bounced off the ground, back against the crossbar before crossing the goal line to give ISU the 3-0 lead, which the team held onto until halftime.

The Redbirds attempted 10 more shots in the second half, including three needing to be saved by the Mastodon goalkeeper, but could not score again in the three-goal non-conference home finale win.

Goalkeeper Madi Valenti earned her 19th career shutout in the game, moving her three behind Aryn Newsom for third in the school's career record book, while her two saves give her 186 for her career, 13 behind Andrea Shaw for fourth-most.

ISU is next back in action on Thursday, September 10, when the team makes the short trek to Charleston, Illinois, to take on the Eastern Illinois Panthers for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
