Max Caltagerone is in his third season as part of the Redbird football coaching staff and his first as the defensive line coach.

Prior to his promotion to a full-time role, Caltagerone spent two seasons working with the defensive line first as a defensive student assistant and later as a defensive graduate assistant and defensive recruiting coordinator. While assisting with the defensive line, Caltagerone was instrumental in the success of Jake Anderson, who was a two-time All-MVFC performer for the Redbirds. He also worked closely with Garret Steffen in during the 2025 season, as he ranked third in the MVFC with 7.5 sacks and was fifth in the league with 11.0 TFLs.

Prior to beginning his coaching career, Caltagerone played for the Redbirds on the defensive line during the 2022-23 seasons. He graduated with a degree in psychology from Illinois State in 2025.
