Prior to Illinois State
Spent the 2012-13 season at Quakerdale Promise Academy in New Providence, Iowa • Prior to his year of prep school, was a four-year starter for Dayton (Ohio) Dunbar High School where he helped win two Ohio state championships • As a senior, averaged 16.0 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks to help Dunbar to its first undefeated season in school history (28-0) and an Ohio Division II title • Netted 14 points with 12 rebounds to lead the Wolverines to their fifth state championship in a 54-52 win against Elida, March 24, 2012 • Also shot 58.5 percent from the field during the 2011-12 season • Averaged 16.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks as a junior, and was named All-Ohio Division II and the Dayton City League Player of the Year • Also helped the Wolverines (25-3) win the 2010 Ohio state title during sophomore campaign, averaging 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.4 blocks that season • Out of high school, was ranked by ESPN as the fourth-best prospect in Ohio, the 34th-best in the region and the 48th-best forward in the nation • Also played for the All-Ohio Red AAU team • Originally signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play at Wichita State in 2011, but was granted partial relief from the Missouri Valley Conference's intra-conference transfer rule after Hawkins did not enroll at WSU • Will be permitted to compete for the Redbirds in the 2014-15 season; however, is required to miss both of ISU's regular-season games against Wichita State.
